Restoring the Victorian Trades Hall Council – A Virtual Tour
October 1 - October 31Free
With support from the government’s Living Heritage Program, architect Lovell Chen has been undergoing conservation, refurbishment, and adaptation works at Melbourne’s Trades Hall.
The restoration project primarily focuses on bringing the community into the building and helping make it relevant to the traditional users and community at large. The Victorian Trades Hall Council is one of the world’s oldest trade union buildings, home to countless stories of rebellion, solidarity and working people, it is affectionately known as the People’s Palace.
Lovell Chen’s award-winning phase one works (restoration of the first Council Chamber, Solidarity Hall reconstruction, portico and roof works) were completed in 2019 and were revealed virtually during last year’s Open House Melbourne July program. The next phase is nearing completion, and we can’t wait to see it!
