SUMMARY:Chris Davison in Conversation with Tony Lupton
DESCRIPTION:Automotive Historians Australia presents\nChris Davison in Conversation with Tony Lupton\nFew Australian families are as woven into the history of motor racing as the Davisons. Lex Davison won the Australian Grand Prix four times and claimed the first-ever CAMS Gold Star\, all while running the family shoe business by day. His wife Diana was one of the first women to race competitively in Australia\, and after Lex’s death at Sandown Raceway in 1965\, she went on to marry Tony Gaze\, a Spitfire ace of the Battle of Britain who became the first Australian to compete in Formula 1. \nJoin Chris Davison\, son of Lex and Diana\, in conversation with automotive historian Tony Lupton as they trace this extraordinary story of racing\, wartime heroism and family\, on and off the track. Expect rare insights\, personal recollections and a few surprises along the way. \nThis will be an in-person and online event.\nRegistration is required for both in person or online attendance.\nCost: free for financial AHA members and online attendance. All others $10 (Includes Morning Tea). \nBook your spot at https://www.historyvictoria.org.au/event/chris-davison-in-conversation-with-tony-lupton/

SUMMARY:The Remarkable Greig Sisters: pioneers in medicine and the law
DESCRIPTION:The Greig sisters arrived in Melbourne in 1889 in search of a university education. Jane and Janet would be among the first women doctors in Australia\, and Flos became the first woman in the nation to practise law. \nThey were unusual for the time and yet not alone. With other remarkable women\, they fought for women’s rights and established the Queen Victoria Hospital\, the Women Graduates’ Association and the Lyceum Club. Their stories – researched by their great-niece Iola Mathews – provide insight not only into their own lives\, but also into their times\, the opposition they faced\, and the progress they and others would make for their ‘sisters’ yet to come. \nAbout the presenter\nIola Mathews OAM is an author\, co-founder of the Women’s Electoral Lobby and a former journalist at The Age. Later she worked at the ACTU as an industrial officer and advocate\, specialising in women’s employment. She is the great-niece of Jane\, Janet and Flos Greig and the granddaughter of Clara Greig. \nEvent can be enjoyed in-person in Melbourne or online via Zoom. \nFor more details and to book\, visit https://www.historyvictoria.org.au/event/the-remarkable-greig-sisters/
