DESCRIPTION:The Wangaratta Historical Society is pleased to display\, “Ratray’s Store and Punt – Crossing the Ovens – 1839” the painting by renowned local artist J. Colin Angus. This iconic painting is rarely seen and tells an important part of the story of Wangaratta’s history as well as the painting history of Colin Angus. \nAn opening event will be held at the museum on Thursday October 8th 5-7pm. Following this the painting can be viewed during history month at the Wangaratta museum in Ford street Wangaratta\, open on Saturdays and Sundays\, 10am – 1pm.  \nDrinks and nibbles provided so please join us to celebrate this great painting.  \nRSVP info@wangarattahistoricalsociety.org.au

Settlers arrived in wagon trains to squat on vast tracts of land\, paying 10 pounds a year in rent.
