SUMMARY:Open House Latrobe Tours at Old Gippstown Heritage Park
DESCRIPTION:Three homes. Three very different chapters in Gippsland’s history. \nOpen House Latrobe is coming to Latrobe City\, and Old Gippstown is opening the doors to three remarkable buildings for a series of guided\, behind-the-scenes tours. \nFollow our heritage guide through Bushy Park Homestead and discover what life was like for squatters establishing themselves in Gippsland during the 1840s. \nExplore “Loren”\, a rare prefabricated iron house created in response to the housing shortage of the gold rush era. Manufactured in England\, these houses were flat-packed and shipped to Melbourne. Originally located in North Melbourne\, Loren was later given to Old Gippstown by the National Trust. \nThe tour concludes at Yallourn House\, built by the State Electricity Commission of Victoria as part of the model township created to house its workforce. The house was eventually removed as the town made way for the coal beneath it\, leaving a distinctive example of mid-century life in the Latrobe Valley. \nTours take place at 10am\, 11am and 12pm and are 45 minutes duration. Places on these special tours can only be booked through the Open House Latrobe website https://events.humanitix.com/old-gippstown-guided-tours for a $7 booking fee. There is no fee for general admission on this weekend for the Open House Latrobe event. \nGeneral entry to Old Gippstown will be free\, giving visitors the opportunity to explore the many other historic buildings throughout our collection. \nBook your tour through Open House Latrobe and discover how the homes of Gippsland changed across more than a century.

DESCRIPTION:Hear the hammer strike\, take your seat in an old schoolroom and watch 1800s clothing being sewn by hand. \nOld Gippstown Heritage Park is celebrating History Month and Open House Latrobe with a weekend of displays\, demonstrations and free entry. \nSet across eight acres of parkland in Moe\, the museum preserves 30 original relocated buildings dating from the 1840s to the 1930s. Together with the park’s artefact collection\, they reveal how people lived\, worked and built their communities across Gippsland. \nOn Sunday\, 11 October from 10am to 2.30pm visitors can: \n• Watch our blacksmith at work\n• Join a historic school class\n• See our heritage guides hand-sewing outfits from the 1800s\n• Explore the buildings and collections throughout the park \nThis is an opportunity to see Gippsland’s history in action—not simply displayed behind glass. \nEntry is free throughout the Open House Latrobe weekend. DESCRIPTION:History is in skilled hands at Old Gippstown this October. \nAs part of the Positive Ageing Festival and History Month\, we’re inviting you to spend a day watching traditional crafts and trades brought to life throughout the park. \nJoin us on Thursday\, 15 October\, from 10am to 2.30pm to see our heritage guides and craftspeople demonstrate: \n• Crochet and hand sewing\n• Spinning and weaving\n• The use of lace bobbins\n• Treadle sewing\n• Blacksmithing at the forge\n• Traditional woodworking\n• Wagon restoration \nBeyond the demonstrations\, explore historic buildings dating from 1840 to 1930 and discover thousands of artefacts reflecting how Gippslanders lived and worked. \nCome along\, meet the people keeping these skills alive and discover more of Gippsland’s history at Old Gippstown Heritage Park\, plenty of off-road car parking\, long vehicle parking and EV chargers.
