A European Modernist in Melbourne

12th October, 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm

$15

In 1956 the Olympic Games came to Melbourne.

As well as sport we celebrated Australian culture, with an Arts Festival and display at Wilson Hall, University of Melbourne. This History Month visit the Duldig Studio museum + sculpture garden in East Malvern to view the sculptures by Karl Duldig which were on display at this important cultural event and hear about Karl and other émigrés who were so influential in the introduction of modernist art and design to Melbourne in the post war period.

Duldig Studio is the former home of Karl Duldig and Slawa Horowitz-Duldig, artists who fled Vienna in 1938. On display in the house and studio is a nationally significant collection of art and objects which document their journey from Vienna, via Singapore to internment in Australia in 1940 and their subsequent careers in Melbourne.

This ticket includes a viewing of the film Reshaping the World: A European Modernist in Melbourne, a tour of the house museum focused on Karl Duldig and modernist sculpture in Melbourne and tea/coffee.
