Southern Aurora Open Day, Violet Town

25th October, 11:00 am - 3:00 pm

Free

Come and see the progress at the multi-award winning Southern Aurora Garden, and let us know your suggestions for the future, in particular the refurbishment of our genuine original 1959 Southern Aurora Sleeper-Car, into a railway Carriage-Museum.

Not only will we give you guided tours and tell stories, you will be able to have a sneak-preview of our developing Carriage Museum exhibition space. Come and tell us your stories! See our outdoor museum, enjoy our mediative space and marvel at the Australian Award winning street art, murals and design.

Learn about and commemorate the Southern Aurora rail disaster in 1969 at Violet Town, after which the hundreds of people voluntarily went about saving and helping hundreds of passengers and staff from the 2 trains: Perhaps the most significant regional event since the Kelly Gang.

Enjoy a sausage sizzle with us, meet locals and enjoy the company of others keen on preserving our history and heritage.
