Newspaper clipping - photo of two women looking at a card together. Headline text reads, "Retiring Director of Social Studies". Smaller caption text below the image says, "Miss Jocelyn Hyslop (right), retiring director of the University Board of Social Studies, photographed yesterday with her assistant, Miss E. R. Hoban".

This walk will be led by social worker historian Jane Miller drawing on the research in her book For Social Betterment – Social Work Education in Australia (2024).

Commencing at the Royal Historical Society of Victoria 239 A’Beckett St.,  the two hour walk will visit sites of key events which eventually led to starting the first university training for social work in Victoria in 1940.  The walk starts with a local drama and it will include the three sites outside the university where social work education took place between 1929 and 1940.  It will conclude at Morris House on the corner of Exhibition and Little Collins St., an Art Deco building opened in 1924 as the  home for the Charity Organisation Society.

Those who wish to can have lunch at Morris House which is now a pub. Lunch is separate from the walk, will take an extra hour and is not included in the walk cost. The walk is sponsored by the Australian Association of Social Workers Victorian Branch.
