Open House Latrobe Tours at Old Gippstown Heritage Park
10th October, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Free – $7
Three homes. Three very different chapters in Gippsland’s history.
Open House Latrobe is coming to Latrobe City, and Old Gippstown is opening the doors to three remarkable buildings for a series of guided, behind-the-scenes tours.
Follow our heritage guide through Bushy Park Homestead and discover what life was like for squatters establishing themselves in Gippsland during the 1840s.
Explore “Loren”, a rare prefabricated iron house created in response to the housing shortage of the gold rush era. Manufactured in England, these houses were flat-packed and shipped to Melbourne. Originally located in North Melbourne, Loren was later given to Old Gippstown by the National Trust.
The tour concludes at Yallourn House, built by the State Electricity Commission of Victoria as part of the model township created to house its workforce. The house was eventually removed as the town made way for the coal beneath it, leaving a distinctive example of mid-century life in the Latrobe Valley.
Tours take place at 10am, 11am and 12pm and are 45 minutes duration. Places on these special tours can only be booked through the Open House Latrobe website https://events.humanitix.com/old-gippstown-guided-tours for a $7 booking fee. There is no fee for general admission on this weekend for the Open House Latrobe event.
General entry to Old Gippstown will be free, giving visitors the opportunity to explore the many other historic buildings throughout our collection.
Book your tour through Open House Latrobe and discover how the homes of Gippsland changed across more than a century.
