Arden ‘True North’ history panels launch in North Melbourne

Fogarty Street, North Melbourne Fogarty Street, North Melbourne

The North and West Melbourne Association (NWMA) would like to invite all history lovers to a small event to publicise the relaunch of the Arden 'True North' history panels. The attached photograph shows three of the ten panels. These panels were previously situated in Laurens St, North Melbourne, near the Arden Metro station, but had to be removed to make way for the completion of the Arden Metro Station.  They have recently been installed in Fogarty St, North Melbourne, on a long wall opposite the North Melbourne Football Club, where they should enjoy many more years of tenure and visibility. They record in accessible text, photographs and graphics – with source references indicated – the historical evolution of the Arden precinct, from pre-colonial times through decades of railways-centric industrial activity through to the gentrification of North and West Melbourne after WW2. The panels also describe the evolution of public transport in this area, from its beginnings.
