Kew Historical Society presents its annual Dickinson Lecture.
Ms Vanessa Kowalski, Head of Conservation, Grimwade Conservation Services Robert Cripps Institute for Cultural Conservation will be presenting a lecture on the practical work Grimwade Conservation Services (GCS) undertakes to care for the wide range of cultural heritage items that are owned by individuals, institutions and organisations.
Using case studies, she will describe treatments and decisions made for a range of local‑interest objects. The presentation will include before‑and‑after images, an explanation of non‑invasive examination techniques, and discussion of challenges experienced.
Vanessa has over 20 years’ experience in the delivery of technical projects and paintings conservation, with specialist expertise in the conservation of contemporary artworks and Australian Indigenous paintings. Vanessa has worked with Indigenous Art Centres across central and northern Australia, public collections across Australia and South-East Asia, and contemporary art collections in New York (Museum of Modern Art and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum). Vanessa manages a large team of specialist conservators and undertakes materials research for art attribution and heritage architecture projects.
